Verschoor replaces Hauger for remainder of F2 season
Richard Verschoor will replace Dennis Hauger at MP Motorsport for the final two races of the F2 season.
The Dutch driver will remain with the team in the championship next year, despite having several options outside the category, including IndyCar and Japanese Super Formula.
Verschoor has had an unlucky season with Trident , being disqualified twice for technical infringements and narrowly missing victory in Monaco when he faced technical problems after taking pole position.
“I raced for the team for six or seven years in total. In our first F2 season together, a sponsor pulled out and I couldn’t finish the whole year. As a result, that F2 season was quite stressful and it feels like unfinished business.”
“I want to fight for the championship once again with this professional team. Although I was very unlucky, my performance this year was not that bad,” he said.
Verschoor has joined MP Motorsport effective immediately, replacing Hauger, who will race in Indy NXT next season, and will race for MP Motorsport in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
“I will be racing for MP in the last races of the year in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. This is a great opportunity to get used to each other for next year and see what I need to change in my riding style,” said Verschoor.
Verschoor is also aiming to help MP Motorsport hold off Prema in the constructors’ championship.
Speaking about his future goals, Verschoor said: “I talked to some teams for 2025 and thought about doing an IndyCar test but then this opportunity came up. In the long run, IndyCar is definitely something I want, but maybe this year it was a little bit too early.
“Formula 2 is also very attractive to my sponsors because they can come to the races and experience a Formula 1 weekend. And personally, I would like to fight for the championship for another season,” he added.
