Rangers to Appeal Against Diomande Red Card

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed the club will appeal Mohamed Diomande’s red card, issued during their 3-1 Scottish Premiership victory over Dundee United at Tannadice.

The Incident

Diomande was sent off in added time following an altercation with Kevin Holt. Referee Nick Walsh, after a VAR review, upheld his original decision, categorizing the incident as violent conduct.

The 23-year-old midfielder was accused of deliberately swinging his hand toward Holt’s face. Clement, however, dismissed the severity of the act:

“Dio gets pushed away. There is a small reaction with his hand without touching the opponent. Nothing.”

Clement Criticizes Decision

Clement expressed frustration at the decision and questioned the consistency of officiating:

“If you get red cards for this, then you need to give three or four red cards in every game. I saw much worse things with yellow cards given.”

The Ibrox boss confirmed that Rangers will appeal the decision, which could see Diomande avoid suspension.

Key Moments of the Match

  • Diomande’s Equalizer: The midfielder struck a sweeping shot to level the game after Sam Dalby’s opener for Dundee United.
  • Robin Propper’s Deflected Goal: Propper’s effort, aided by a deflection off Holt, gave Rangers the lead.
  • Cyriel Dessers’ Stunning Strike: Dessers sealed the victory with a spectacular late goal.

Team Updates and Transfers

Clement hinted at potential squad reinforcements but deferred transfer questions to Rangers’ CEO Patrick Stewart and the board:

“I’m focused on the players that are here and focused on getting results.”

The Belgian also revealed a potential injury boost ahead of Thursday’s league match against Union Saint-Gilloise, saying, “There’s a big chance Ridvan Yilmaz will be back.”

What’s Next?

Rangers will look to build on their league momentum and navigate key matches while awaiting the outcome of their appeal. With Clement critical of the officiating consistency, all eyes will be on the governing body’s decision regarding Diomande’s dismissal.
