Rangers comfortably beat Ross County 3-0 to move within two points of second-placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Hamza Igamane’s thunderous strike deflected over goalkeeper Jack Hamilton, giving Rangers an early lead. Danilo then capitalized on a mistake by Hamilton, robbing the goalkeeper to tap in Rangers’ second before half-time.

In the second half, Akil Wright twice went close with headers for the hosts, but Rangers sealed the victory when James Tavernier smashed in their late third. The result means Rangers are now just two points behind Aberdeen, with a game in hand, though still 11 points adrift of league leaders Celtic.

The contrasting fortunes of the goalkeepers played a significant role in the game. Rangers’ Jack Butland made important saves after a shaky start, including a deflected shot from Noah Chilvers and a header from Wright. Despite a few nervy moments, Butland remained solid throughout, with his composure keeping County from capitalizing on their chances.

On the other hand, Hamilton, stepping in for the injured Ross Laidlaw, struggled with several errors. He couldn’t do anything to prevent Igamane’s stunning strike from the left, which looped over him, and Tavernier’s swerving shot that sealed the win for Rangers.

Philippe Clement’s Rangers side has been on a strong run, having recovered from earlier struggles this season. Under the guidance of Clement, the team is starting to find their form, with Igamane particularly impressive, having scored in each of his last four games.

Clement was pleased with his team’s performance, stating that it was a dominant display despite the tough conditions. He praised the squad for maintaining their organisation, concentration, and for taking advantage of County’s mistakes. The victory gives Rangers confidence ahead of a crucial week, with a Europa League match against Tottenham and a League Cup final against Celtic.

Rangers’ next challenge is a Europa League tie against former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur, followed by the League Cup final. Meanwhile, Ross County, who had beaten Rangers in April, will look to bounce back in their next match against Hibernian.

Cowie, the Ross County manager, acknowledged the strength of Rangers but felt that the timing of their second goal made it difficult for his team to get back into the game. He also highlighted missed opportunities, particularly Akil Wright’s header, which could have reduced the deficit.

Philippe Clement and Rangers are now gearing up for their biggest week of the season, with confidence growing as they continue their march up the Premiership table.
