Rasmus Højlund Downplays Comparisons to Manchester United Legend van Nistelrooy

Rasmus Højlund, a striker for Manchester United, has addressed remarks that suggested his goal against Brentford was a replica of United great Ruud van Nistelrooy’s finishing technique. Højlund, who is currently a member of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, was instrumental in United’s 2-1 comeback triumph. His deft chip over Brentford goalkeeper Mats Flekken was reminiscent of the legendary Dutch attacker.

Højlund quickly downplayed the resemblance when asked if his finishing style was similar to Van Nistelrooy’s. The 21-year-old remarked in a statement to the media, “A Van Nistelrooy finish? I do not wish to be like him. He is an inspiration to us, if that’s what you want to say about him. Alongside him, I can grow significantly.”

A Modest Approach

Even while Højlund acknowledged Van Nistelrooy’s impact, he made it clear that he preferred to follow his own route and not be compared to the great striker. Højlund, who has been an immediate impact player for the Red Devils, praised Van Nistelrooy’s mentoring style and the opportunities he provides for development.

Højlund is still making an impression for Manchester United, so observers and supporters are excited to watch how he advances under Van Nistelrooy’s guidance. Højlund is still intent on focusing on his own path and making an impact at Old Trafford in spite of the similarities.
