Real Madrid: Less expenses, more revenue, deficit still huge
Despite the fact that Real Madrid haven’t been able to keep the basketball section without financial losses, the deficit is constantly declining, while revenues are growing.
According the club’s latest financial report conveyed by 2playbook.com, last season (2023-24), losses amounted to €20.83 million, far less than the €25 million deficit of 2021 or the €28 million the club had to cover in previous years.
Per the report, Real Madrid have cashed in over €12 million only in sponsorships. Moreover, the Spanish powerhouse has accrued €8.9 million from ticket sales, while revenues from domestic and international competitions, as well as TV rights, are around €4 million.
The deficit has been reduced due to higher revenues and first-team salary caps. It should also be noted that the overall expenses were higher in years when the club won many titles, especially the EuroLeague trophy. For instance, the bonuses for the EuroLeague and Copa del Rey titles in 2023 amounted to €6.7 million, when personnel expenses came up to €30.5 million.
This season (2024-25), revenues of almost €24 million are expected, a figure that the club usually exceeds. Two years ago, the forecast was 18, and the revenues amounted to 22 million. In October, 2023, a €23 million income was estimated, but the profit was higher by 2 million.
As a deficit of €18.5 million is expected for 2024, the budget of the section for this season is estimated to almost €43 million.
