Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone confirmed that defender Robin Le Normand is now available to compete after recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Le Normand, who suffered the injury in a collision with Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni during a 1-1 draw on September 29, has been cleared to play in Thursday’s Copa del Rey second-round match against CP Cacereno.
Simeone spoke about Le Normand’s recovery, saying, “First of all, we were thinking about the health of the player. That’s what the club, doctors, and physios focused on as a first step. Then comes the player, who started to get in shape and is now ready to start competing from tomorrow. Seeing the enthusiasm that he transmits, he is very happy and eager to help the team.”
Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer, Robin Le Normand has made eight appearances for the team, and Simeone expressed his pleasure in seeing the defender back in action. Atletico, who are currently on a seven-match winning streak, are eager to continue their strong form across all competitions. However, Simeone stressed the importance of maintaining consistency throughout the season.
“We have things to improve, the team grows from a block and I always call that block a team, neither offensive nor defensive,” Simeone added. “From there, we need that consistency, which is the most difficult thing to maintain during the season.”
As Atletico prepares to face Cacereno, Simeone highlighted the competitive spirit within the squad, with every player keen to make an impact. He also mentioned the importance of wearing the Atletico shirt with pride in every match.
Le Normand’s return adds depth to Atletico’s defense, and Simeone is optimistic about his team’s chances as they look to extend their winning streak.
