Ryan Reynolds Jokes About ‘Kidnapping’ Plans for Rob McElhenney

After receiving a sweet birthday present, Ryan Reynolds, a Hollywood celebrity and co-owner of Wrexham, playfully abandoned his plans to “kidnap” fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney. When McElhenney partnered with the American animal welfare group Best Friends Animal Society to celebrate Reynolds’ birthday in a special way, the two celebrities—who have been recognized for their amicable banter since taking over Wrexham—kept up their humorous banter.

The Cute Birthday Surprise

In a social media video announcing the birthday surprise, McElhenney urged followers to “AdoptARyan” in honor of Reynolds’ birthday. In an effort to find them loving homes, they renamed a variety of rescue animals, such as dogs, cats, horses, and donkeys, as “Ryan Reynolds” in collaboration with Best Friends Animal Society. The idea was humorously presented by McElhenney as providing Reynolds with “unconditional love” on his special day.

Ryan Reynolds’ Response

Reynolds responded with his characteristic wit, sharing his thoughts on Instagram. “I was expecting some sort of assault on decency or thinly veiled attack on Canada.” Reynolds joked, before expressing his appreciation for McElhenney and the thoughtful surprise. He added:

“He is as wonderful and singular as you’d imagine, and I’m the luckiest guy on earth.”

The actor then humorously revealed his original, more mischievous birthday plan for McElhenney, which involved a light-hearted scheme that he clarified wasn’t exactly a kidnapping:

“I wouldn’t even describe it as an ‘abduction.’ I’d call it an ‘involuntary, forced and rapid relocation system.’ Now, it’s going to have to be something kind and joyful. And less of a felony.”
