Sainz: “If I become Verstappen’s teammate, we will have no problems”
Carlos Sainz does not believe there would be any friction between Max Verstappen and him if he became his teammate.
Carlos Sainz’s name has been linked with Red Bull for a long time, but no such decision has been made by the Red Bull management.
Sainz has finally signed for Williams and will race there next year, but he could move there if he receives an offer from Red Bull, as his contract includes an early termination clause.
But there are claims that Red Bull management fears that Verstappen and Sainz will not get along.
Regarding Helmut Marko’s fears that he might not get along with Verstappen due to his Toro Rosso time, Sainz told Auto Motor und Sport: ” I think I will get along well with Max.”
“We were 16 and 19 at Toro Rosso. We’ve both matured a lot since then. At Toro Rosso they put you in a team and say ‘play against each other. Then we’ll see who’s the best and who gets promoted to Red Bull!'”
“That’s the reason why Toro Rosso exists. You’re not competing for the constructors’ championship there, otherwise the attitude of both drivers would change completely.”
“You can see that with my last two teammates, Charles and Lando – we never had any problems.”
“So if my relationship with Max is the reason I’m not racing there, I have to say there’s no problem with that.”
“If the decision was based solely on that, it would be absolutely wrong. But I already told them that.”
