Sainz’s Father Explains Why His Son Rejected Audi’s Offer

Carlos Sainz Sr has clarified his son’s decision to decline Audi’s offer, describing Williams as an “up-and-coming project.”

Carlos Sainz Jr opted to join Williams for the 2025 season despite offers from Sauber/Audi and Alpine. Many expected the current Ferrari driver to sign with Audi, considering his father’s ties to the German brand and the team’s factory status.

However, speaking to Marca, Sainz Sr acknowledged that this was not an “easy decision” for his son. He stated, “This is his decision, and we must respect it. It wasn’t an easy choice. There were three or four options on the table, and ultimately, he is the one who has to decide his future. We are doing our best to support him.”

Sainz Sr characterized Williams as an “up-and-coming project,” noting that the team has shown improvement this year and he believes they will continue to do so next year. He highlighted his son’s ability to develop any team he joins, emphasizing the value he brings to Williams.

He remarked, “Carlos has already made a good impression with his work ethic and knowledge. No matter which team he joins, he improves it. This is quite significant and is a trait always expected from a driver.”

Sainz Sr expressed confidence in his son’s seriousness and clarity regarding these matters, stating that he has always supported him. He acknowledged that this season has been challenging for Carlos, particularly with the speculation surrounding Lewis Hamilton potentially moving to Ferrari before the season began, complicating matters.

“As a father, my nephew and I have helped him evaluate all possible options. But my role has always remained the same,” he added.
