Samsunspor’s First Goal is 42 Points

Samsunspor head coach Thomas Reis stated that their primary goal in the Trendyol Super League is to collect 42 points, and they will discuss different objectives after achieving that.

The German coach shared that he is experiencing his first overseas adventure with Samsunspor. Reis expressed his happiness at Samsunspor, saying, “Having a successful season makes things a bit easier. I am also trying to learn. I am even improving my English. I am trying to get used to a new mentality. People in Turkey are very friendly; they treat me very well, and I feel very good here.”

Reis recalled that he took charge of Samsunspor during a transfer ban, stating, “I did not see the transfer ban as a risk. I love special tasks. I have worked in similar clubs, and Samsunspor is one of them. I had a similar situation and challenges when I moved from Bochum to Schalke 04. In these situations, I have the opportunity to prove that I am a good coach. This is a nice task for me, and it makes me feel good while performing it. I came knowing we had a transfer ban. I was very happy when I received a phone call from our football director Fuat Capa at the beginning of the season.”

• “I Made Tactical Changes”

The German coach noted that Samsunspor fought to avoid relegation last season and continued, “We started this season with the same squad. This year is actually very different from last year. Two seasons ago, Samsunspor was promoted from the 1st League to the Super League, and many players were transferred to the team. They started poorly in the Super League and later made a coaching change by bringing in Markus Gisdol. Last year, Markus played with a specific tactic to avoid relegation. I believe it was the right decision to play with that tactic at the time, and the team managed to stay up by doing so.

As for this season, I made tactical changes. I wanted the ball to stay with us. We have become a team that loves to play with the ball. We already have successful players in midfield. We are trying to improve our game.”

Thomas Reis emphasized that despite their good performances, they have not yet achieved anything in the league, stating, “Our mission is definitely not over; we have collected some points. The league will be very challenging, and we need to be very careful. We have not accomplished anything yet; everything can change at any moment. If we reach 42 points, we can consider that we have stayed in the league. After reaching 42 points, maybe we can start talking about different goals. For now, we need to continue on our path in the same way.”
