Serbian Head Coach Sasa Obradovic Completes Third Season with AS Monaco

Serbian head coach Sasa Obradovic has completed his third season at the helm of AS Monaco. Although he couldn’t lead his team to the EuroLeague Final Four this year, coach Obradovic will continue to stay with the team for the upcoming season.

Obradovic’s Assessments

The 55-year-old coach answered questions from Eurohoops during the EuroLeague Coaches Association Congress held in Greece this summer. Obradovic mentioned that they had a good season despite not making it to the Final Four:

“People can always judge you on different matters. Personally, I am satisfied with my performance this season; I couldn’t have done more. Compared to the previous season, we have more wins in the EuroLeague, and we won the French League. If we had made that last shot (against Fenerbahce in Game 5), we would have gone to the Final Four, and it would have been a great achievement for us. Even though we couldn’t do it, I’m not complaining. We cannot overlook everything we’ve done throughout the season just because of one play.”

About Star Player Mike James

The Serbian coach also spoke about star player Mike James:

“EuroLeague MVP, French League final series MVP, French All-Star MVP. All these are significant for him, for me, and for the team. However, Mike needs to achieve something even more valuable than all these because basketball is a team game. To achieve this, we need to take another step forward as a team. If we can do that, our value as players and coaches will increase. It’s crucial for Mike to realize that he can contribute to the team in ways other than scoring, and he did this very well last season. Despite his incredible offensive talents, he can be the best defender on the team when he wants to be. Mike is a player who makes me and his team better.”

Oh wow, Sasa Obradovic completed his third season! That’s truly groundbreaking news, I mean, who would have thought? Not making it to the Final Four is like a badge of honor now, right? I can just imagine the champagne flowing and confetti falling for all those ‘extra’ wins. It’s almost like they think winning a few games counts as success. Maybe next year they can aim for participation ribbons instead! What a spectacular way to lower the bar!

Yeah, because winning is so overrated! Who cares about trophies when you can boast about your losses with such enthusiasm? It’s like saying, ‘Hey, look at us! We didn’t suck as much as last year!’ Bravo, Sasa! At this rate, I expect him to write a self-help book titled ‘How to Be Satisfied with Mediocrity’ and sell it at half price!

Oh please, he’s satisfied with his performance? That’s rich! Maybe he should have tried coaching a team that actually makes it past the first round instead of celebrating minor victories like they’re World Championships. Can we get a reality check here? It’s not rocket science; just win more games and stop playing the victim card. Are we supposed to feel bad for him now?

‘One play’ ruined everything? Really? Sounds like classic blame-shifting to me! How about taking some responsibility instead of making excuses? Last shot or not, if you’re depending on one play to define your season, maybe it’s time for some serious introspection. Good luck next season; you’ll need it more than your team needs actual defense!

‘Mike James needs to contribute in ways other than scoring’? Wow what an epiphany! Next thing you know, they’ll want him to start selling popcorn during breaks too! Maybe they could start handing out medals for being ‘the best on defense’ while allowing opponents to score at will—sounds totally worth celebrating! What a strategy!

‘Best defender’ when he wants to be? How utterly convenient! So basically what we’re hearing is that he’ll only defend when he feels like it—great work ethic there! If only he could sprinkle in some effort during every game instead of picking and choosing his moments like it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet!

‘More wins in EuroLeague’? Wowza! That definitely deserves a parade—oh wait… A parade for mediocrity sounds ridiculous enough already without adding fuel to that fire. Let’s just hand out trophies for participation while we’re at it; everyone gets one except teams who actually try hard and win!

‘A great achievement if we made that last shot’? Seriously?! Is this guy living in fantasy land where close counts in basketball too? The reality is: you either win or lose; there’s no gray area here. If you’re hanging your hopes on ‘almost’ getting there but didn’t quite make it—sorry buddy—you missed the mark by quite a distance.
