Former Besiktas coach Sergen Yalcin made striking comments about Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin, which caused a stir on social media.
Sergen Yalcin, who won 1 Super Lig and 1 Turkish Cup title with Besiktas, recently returned to sports punditry. His evaluations have drawn attention, and his remarks about Nuri Sahin have sparked controversy.
Speaking on Kafa Sports YouTube channel, Yalcin criticized Sahin’s appointment as the head coach of the German giant. He also took a jab at Francesco Farioli.
Here’s what Sergen Yalcin said:
“IS IT THAT EASY?”
“Is it that easy to become a coach at Dortmund? Work at Antalyaspor for two years, achieve nothing, and then become a coach at Dortmund. How does this happen, for example? Don’t you need to achieve some success to get somewhere in coaching?”
“FARIOLI, A GLOBAL COMEDY”
“I can’t believe Farioli became Ajax’s coach. The guy became a coach just because he’s Italian. He was an analyst, not a coach at all. Our Cenk brought him to Alanyaspor as an assistant. From there, he became a coach. After three back-passes, people started saying, ‘Wow, what a great coach!’ He went to Nice, then to Ajax. I can’t believe it, it’s a global comedy.”
“AN OFFER CAME, BUT…”
“Schalke made an offer, but I’m not thinking about coaching right now. I’m comfortable here. Winter is coming, the studio is nice, our outfits are good, the colors are nice, the conversations are fun, just criticize freely.”
