Should Kai Havertz Be Worried? Deniz Undav Steals the Show

Undav Makes His Mark Using a Brace as Germany Approach Nations League Quarter-finals

Deniz Undav gave a remarkable display, scoring twice to help Germany to earn a hard-fought 2-1 Nations League triumph over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Stuttgart forward made a strong statement that might cause Kai Havertz to start worrying about his position on the squad.

In the 30th minute Germany led first after Undav finished calmly after Florian Wirtz’s precisely placed pull-back set up. Tim Kleindienst seemed to have doubled the lead, only to have his goal declared off-side. But six minutes later Undav added his second goal, slotting home a well-placed cross from Maximilian Mittelstädt.

Undav was not given a hat-trick as Kleindienst was once more offside in the build-up, and Serge Gnabry also had a goal denied for the same reason. One back was pulled by Bosnia from seasoned striker Edin Džeko, whose directed header set up a tight last 20 minutes.

Both sides had opportunities to either widen the lead or level off, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side remained steady at the Stadium Bilino Polje, Friday night, inching toward the Nations League quarter-finals.
