STELLA: “MARKO’S COMMENTS ON NORRIS ARE HEAVIER THAN PILOTS’ CURSES”

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella stated that Helmut Marko’s comments are “heavier than the curses thrown by pilots.”

Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Helmut Marko remarked that McLaren driver Lando Norris is “mentally weak.” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown claimed in a press conference before the US Grand Prix that Marko’s remarks set Formula 1 back “10 to 20 years.”

Andrea Stella addressed the issue, saying, “First of all, I can say that emotionally every driver is very different from each other; however, they are all exceptional.”

“For example, Michael Schumacher always seemed very confident, but that confidence actually came from working with the team and the effort they put in together.”

“There were times when he had no confidence in himself.”

“It’s clear how much emphasis has been placed on mental health issues in sports, especially in the last decade. Both drivers, including Lando, and F1 are engaging in discussions and initiatives on this matter. I take pride in that.”

“But then you hear what Helmut has said, and 20 years of work disappears in one comment.”

“I think this is much heavier than the curses thrown by drivers.”
