Even though he is coaching Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, Liverpool star Steven Gerrard has acknowledged that his strong bond with his old team still affects his managing career. After taking over as manager of Al-Ettifaq in 2023, Gerrard disclosed that he has been planning his team’s training sessions around Liverpool games, a practice that has annoyed some of his players.
Gerrard’s Passion for Liverpool
During a live charity stream for Zoe’s Place, Gerrard opened up about his commitment to following Liverpool, explaining how both he and his goalkeeping coach, John Achterberg, have kept a close eye on the Merseyside club’s fixtures.
“Both myself and John have got one eye on it. We put all our schedule around the Liverpool games.”
While Gerrard’s devotion to Liverpool is well-known, this quirk has not gone unnoticed by his current squad. “The players are onto me now; we’ve been training at 9 or 10 at night!” Gerrard humorously admitted, acknowledging that his players are not entirely pleased with the late-night training sessions.
