They Couldn’t Get Galatasaray’s Star: Toney Kept His Promise!
English star Ivan Toney showcased his quality once again after a two-match goalless streak by scoring in style. Al-Ahli, a club in the Saudi Pro League, signed Ivan Toney from Brentford during the summer transfer window. Toney had been competing with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen for a move to the Saudi side, but Osimhen opted to join Galatasaray in Turkey.
Toney, who didn’t score in his first two matches for Al-Ahli, finally netted twice in his third official match against Damac, leading his team to a 4-2 victory. After the match, it was revealed by an official Al-Ahli cameraman that Toney had promised via WhatsApp to score two goals in the next game. In the message, Toney had written, “Next game 2 goals,” and he delivered on his promise.
Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino and ex-Celta Vigo player Gabri Veiga also contributed to Al-Ahli’s goals, as the team continues to compete for the top spot in the Saudi Pro League.
Excluded from the squad during the September international break, Toney hopes to maintain his form with Al-Ahli for the rest of the month in order to rejoin the England squad under Lee Carsley.
