Thomas Muller Dismisses Comparisons When Asked About Harry Kane
Bayern Munich veteran Thomas Muller gave a blunt response when asked about Harry Kane’s qualities, insisting that questions comparing teammates are “all nonsense.” Kane, who has been in scintillating form since joining Bayern, has already netted 10 goals in six appearances across all competitions and has also contributed five assists.
Muller’s Response to Kane Comparisons
When Muller was questioned if Kane is the best striker he’s ever played alongside, he downplayed the notion of ranking teammates, emphasizing that such comparisons miss the nuances of what makes a center-forward. “It is not about being the best,” Muller said to the Bundesliga website. “I was asked many times in my career about my favourite pizza or my favourite food—it is all nonsense.”
He elaborated that the concept of the “best” player is subjective and context-dependent, as different strikers have various qualities that fit different styles of play, opponents, and team dynamics. “You can ask which striker fits with the teammates? What’s the best fit for this particular opponent? But the best overall? It doesn’t work like that.”
Acknowledging Kane’s Strengths
Despite his dismissal of the “best striker” label, Muller did praise Kane’s remarkable abilities, particularly his finishing prowess. “When you compare top strikers, everybody is a little different. One may be a better dribbler, another may have more pace. There are surely players who are better in those aspects than Harry, but in terms of finishing—with both feet and his head—there is no one better. He is at the very top.”
Muller also noted that while Kane excels in certain aspects of the game, other brilliant strikers possess different attributes that make them equally valuable in their own right.
Kane’s Stellar Start at Bayern
Kane’s integration into Bayern Munich has been seamless, with the Englishman playing a key role in the team’s undefeated start in the Bundesliga. Bayern has scored 11 goals in their last two league games, including a 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel and a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen, in which Kane has been a standout performer.
