Kroos on Ancelotti, Retirement, and the Midfield Void at Madrid
Though retired from professional football, Toni Kroos sarcastically admitted that he concerns Carlo Ancelotti would “kidnap” him back into the Real Madrid team should he ever return for a casual kick-through. Ancelotti has struggled to strike the ideal balance in midfield since Kroos hung his boots, assigning youngsters like Jude Bellingham in deeper duties to cover the vacuum left by the German departure.
Speaking with Diario AS, Kroos expressed his playful worry over Ancelotti, the Real Madrid manager, urging him back into action should he turn up for play. “I’m not sure if they would find it cool if I show up once in a while and say I would like to join,” he said jokingly. Carlo might also instruct me, “Now stay here,” which carries risk right now.
Kroos also made it very evident that he does not now intend to be part of Ancelotti’s coaching staff. Rather, he is focusing on young development and remarks:
“Right now I don’t feel like instructing adults. They will have to believe in a youth academy I am opening in Madrid as I will be playing along.”
Legacies and New Chapters of a Midfield Legend
Real Madrid’s midfield has clearly suffered since Kroos retired, and Ancelotti’s attempts to match Kroos’ balance and control have proved difficult. Even if only for a kickabout, Madrid supporters can only dream of the German coming to the grounds as Kroos enters this new chapter of his life, concentrated on youth development. But as he stated sarcastically, Ancelotti might not let him go.
