After his contract with Real Madrid came to an end, Toni Kroos decided to retire from professional football. He admitted that in 2014, he was on the verge of a transfer to Manchester United.

WHAT WAS SAID?

Speaking during halftime of a Kings League match, Toni Kroos responded to the question, “Would you have liked to play in the Premier League?” by saying:

“I came close. In 2014, before signing with Real Madrid, I had agreed with Manchester United. David Moyes was in charge, and I had spoken with him. Then Moyes was sacked, and Louis van Gaal took over. After that, everything fell through.”

Kroos began his youth career at Greifswalder and Hansa Rostock before moving to Bayern Munich’s U19 team. He made his first-team debut in 2007 and spent a season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen. Between 2010 and 2014, Kroos played for Bayern Munich’s first team before joining Real Madrid in 2014.

After 10 years with Real Madrid, Toni Kroos retired at the end of last season.
