Tottenham Makes Unwanted Premier League History with Stunning Collapse

Having a 2-0 lead at halftime, Tottenham lost 3-2 against Brighton and entered the record books for the incorrect reasons. With leading by two goals or more, the fall marks the tenth time Spurs have lost a Premier League game; no other team has accomplished this.

Spurs went ahead 2-0 on the south coast, ruling the first half. But Brighton turned the game around in the second half fast. Three minutes after the restart, Yankuba Minteh scored; Georginio Rutter equalized in the 58th minute. Danny Welbeck scored the goal in the 66th minute, therefore securing the triumph and establishing an unwelcome record for Tottenham.

Postecoglou Assumes Accountability

In a post-match interview with BBC Sport, Spurs’ head coach, Ange Postecoglou, accepted full responsibility for the loss, declaring:

” Fair to say that the second half was unsatisfactory and we paid a price for it. We should have settled it in the first half most definitely. We received what we deserved; what we did in the second half is terrible.”

Postecoglou said that the team’s mindset in the second half led to the collapse: “Maybe we simply believed we’d roll out there and play well again and that’s not how it works and we suffered for it. We had past concessions; yet, your response is what it should be. Our response was not what it ought to be. Today is terrible for us; when such a day arises, the duty rests with me.

Some supporters have criticised Postecoglou’s leadership and demanded better following the shocking loss as Tottenham tries to establish continuity in their Premier League campaign.
