AZ Alkmaar Defeats Elfsborg with Van Bommel’s Brilliance

AZ Alkmaar secured a 3-2 victory over Elfsborg in their opening UEFA Europa League match, with 20-year-old Ruben van Bommel playing a pivotal role in the win.

In the first week of the UEFA Europa League, Dutch side AZ Alkmaar hosted Sweden’s IF Elfsborg at AFAS Stadium. The home team triumphed 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

AZ Alkmaar’s goals came from Ruben van Bommel in the 44th and 50th minutes, with Troy Parrott adding a third in the 74th minute. Elfsborg’s goals, scored by Timothy Noor Ouma in the 23rd minute and Simon Hedlund in the 53rd minute, were not enough to prevent defeat.

AZ Alkmaar, who will also face Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in the Europa League, will play their second group match on October 3rd against Athletic Bilbao in Spain. Meanwhile, Elfsborg will meet Italian side Roma on the same day.
