Bayern Munich Lose Points after Omar Marmoush’s Goal

After Omar Marmoush produced a spectacular stoppage-time equalizer for Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich surrendered two vital points at Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday, negating Michael Olise’s earlier genius.

Bayern got going, Kim Min-Jae opening the score in the fifteenth minute to complete a cutback from Thomas Muller. But the lead was fleeting as Marmoush slid the ball past Manuel Neuer to even the game via Raphael Guerreiro’s sloppy marking.

Marmoush kept disrupting Bayern’s defense, generating a second goal possibility by driving past Dayot Upamecano on a counterattack and setting up Hugo Ekitike, who beat Neuer at his near post in the 35th minute. Bayern answered fast, Upamecano equalizing from close range following a remarkable stop by Eintracht goalkeeper Kaua Santos from Olise’s attempt.

Second Half: Bayern Retakes Control but Falters Late

Vincent Kompany’s team tightened up defensively following halftime, therefore restricting Eintracht’s counterattacks. Then Bayern advanced in the 53rd minute with Olise scoring from a brilliant assist by Harry Kane. But five minutes later Kane left hurt, therefore compromising Bayern’s advantage. Marmoush scored his second goal of the game in the fourth minute of stoppage time, therefore giving the hosts a point and so depriving Bayern of the victory despite their best attempts to maintain their advantage.

Even if Bayern has improved this year under Kompany’s direction, the tie revealed defensive flaws typical of past season for them.
