Canadian Grand Prix to be held in May from 2026

Octane Racing Group, organiser of the Canadian Grand Prix, has announced its joint support for Formula 1’s efforts to rationalise the race calendar and make the event more sustainable by holding it at an earlier date, working with key stakeholders.

In this context, the Canadian Grand Prix is planned to be held on the third or fourth weekend of May every year from 2026.

The change aims to lump the European legs of the season into a single, consecutive period over the summer months, eliminating the need for the Formula 1 crowd to make an additional transatlantic journey each year, while also significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said: “I would like to thank the organisers and all government stakeholders involved in the Canadian Grand Prix. This change will not only make the future flow of our calendar more sustainable, but also make more logistical sense for our teams and staff. Our commitment to achieving zero emissions by 2030 is on track thanks to changes like this.”

Jean-Philippe Paradis, CEO of Octane Racing Group, said: “This change in the calendar makes a major contribution to Formula 1’s commitment to a sustainable future and also demonstrates our desire to combine sports performance and event organisation with environmental responsibility. This change is part of our commitment to extending the summer season in Montreal and offering our fans, communities and loyal viewers a unique Canadian Grand Prix experience in a more sustainable and inclusive environment.”
