Didier Deschamps Defends Kylian Mbappe’s Role Amid Real Madrid Struggles
Despite Kylian Mbappe’s difficult start to his Real Madrid career, France head coach Didier Deschamps has stated that the forward’s spot in the national squad will not change. The France captain, who left Paris Saint-Germain to join the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, has failed to live up to the huge expectations that accompanied his arrival as he has only scored once in his past seven games in all competitions.
Deschamps on Mbappe’s Position
Addressing criticism of Mbappe’s performances, Deschamps emphasized that his role in the France squad remains crucial and carefully tailored. Speaking to Telefoot, he said, “He can play in several positions, but it’s a question of association. You might call me ‘crazy’ for using him as a centre forward, but he played in that role under his last two coaches—Carlo Ancelotti and PSG’s Luis Enrique.”
