Fenerbahçe Targets Mario Hermoso for Center-Back Transfer
Fenerbahçe is making significant moves in the transfer market, with Mario Hermoso, who recently left Atletico Madrid, emerging as a top target for the left-footed center-back position.
According to a report from Sabah, Fenerbahçe has initiated contact to fill the left-sided center-back role at the request of head coach Jose Mourinho. The club has set its sights on the Spanish defender Mario Hermoso, who is also on the radar of Galatasaray.
Hermoso began his football career in Real Madrid’s youth system and has never played outside of Spain. The 29-year-old spent the 2019-2024 seasons with Atletico Madrid before becoming a free agent this summer. According to the report, Fenerbahçe is prepared to meet Hermoso’s demands, which include a €5 million annual salary and a signing bonus, to compete with Galatasaray for his signature.
High Demand for Hermoso
Hermoso has made 185 appearances in La Liga and played a total of 304 matches in his career, scoring 15 goals and providing 12 assists. He has also earned five caps for the Spanish national team.
Last season, Hermoso featured in 45 matches for Diego Simeone’s side, starting 42 of them. He is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs across Europe as well as from Saudi Arabia.
Should Fenerbahçe successfully complete this transfer, it is expected that Rodrigo Becao will return to Italy, and Samet Akaydin could be on his way out of the club.
