The playoff draw for the Champions League was held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. Fenerbahçe’s potential opponent in the playoff round was announced. A new format will be implemented in the UEFA Champions League this season. The tournament will expand from 32 to 36 teams. Instead of group matches, a league format will be introduced, with teams playing 8 matches in the first stage. The top 8 teams in the standings after these 8 matches will advance to the Round of 16, while teams ranked 9th to 24th will play in a playoff for the Round of 16.
Who is Fenerbahçe’s Opponent?
If Fenerbahçe eliminates Lille in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, they will face the winner of the Slavia Prague – Union SG matchup in the playoff round. The yellow-dark blues will play their first match in this round on August 20 or 21, if they advance to the playoffs by eliminating Lille. The return legs of this round will be played on August 27-28. If Fenerbahçe passes the playoffs, they will advance to the league stage of the Champions League.
