Screenshot 5

Galatasaray missed out on a huge financial windfall after failing to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League, losing their playoff tie against Young Boys. The club will now continue its journey in the Europa League, but the missed revenue opportunity is substantial.

Galatasaray lost 3-2 in the first leg away to Young Boys and was defeated again 1-0 in the return leg, thereby missing out on a Champions League berth, along with a significant financial boost.

Had they advanced to the Champions League, Galatasaray would have benefited greatly from the competition’s new format.

  • The participation fee for the Champions League was set at €18.62 million, with an additional €9 million from broadcasting rights.
  • In the group stage, which would feature 8 matches, each victory would have earned them €2.1 million, and each draw €700,000.

By failing to qualify for the Champions League, Galatasaray missed out on at least €27.6 million (approximately 1.05 billion TL).

Continuing in the Europa League

As Galatasaray will now continue in the Europa League, they will receive a participation fee of only €4.8 million.
