Houston Dash Part Ways with Manager Fran Alonso

Dash Make Adjustments Through Changing Season

Months after manager Fran Alonso abruptly left the touchline, the Houston Dash formally broke away with him. Declaring that the contract termination of Alonso was done “in lieu of a return from a leave of absence,” the club revealed their decision on Tuesday. Originally reported as on leave owing to a “illness,” Alonso, who has not overseen the squad since June 22, was later corrected as having a “leave of absence.” The team has not revealed any specifics regarding his absence, though.

Alonso’s exit comes after former general manager Alex Singer was removed just over two months ago, leaving the team without official leadership in both important jobs. The Dash wants to stabilize and forward-plan, hence Ricky Clarke will remain interim head coach for the rest of the season. Before they start looking for a permanent head coach, the team said a new GM will be hired.

Currently ranked lowest in the NWSL, the Dash boasts just four victories and 17 points from 22 games. The emphasis will move to rebuilding and selecting the appropriate leadership to turn around their fortunes in the run-up to the 2025 campaign as they get near the end of a difficult season.
