LAWSON: “I WON’T CHANGE MY APPROACH”
Young driver Liam Lawson of VCARB stated that despite his contact with Sergio Perez during the Mexico Grand Prix, he will not change his driving style in Formula 1. Lawson noted that Red Bull management has not requested any changes in this regard, but he did apologize for the “middle finger” gesture he made towards Perez during the race.
Lawson said, “My approach to racing in Formula 1 will not change; I will always be this way. But if I make a mistake, I will learn from it, and frankly, I made a mistake in Mexico. I will learn what I need to from this and move on.” He added, “And I think our battle on the track was seen as a racing incident.”
When asked if he had spoken with Helmut Marko and Christian Horner after the incident with Perez, Lawson replied, “I don’t think they want me to race differently than I do. But of course, the goal is not to have contact with another Red Bull car. Looking back, maybe I could have avoided that contact, and that would have been the right move at the moment.”
