MARKO: “WE HAD A VEHICLE FAST ENOUGH TO TAKE A PLACE IN THE FRONT”
In the session, which was postponed to Sunday from Saturday due to heavy rain, a quarter of the vehicles on the grid touched the barriers.
Like Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, both Williams and Aston Martin took great damage during the session.
Speaking to ServusTV, Helmut Marko questioned the decision to start the session in these wet conditions and explained the reason why championship leader Max Verstappen was so far behind.
The Red Bull advisor said, “We had a car fast enough to be at the front. However, this did not happen due to circumstances.”
“The first thing to stand in front of Max was Ocon, and then the red flag came out 30 seconds after the accident, which pushed us out of the top 10.”
“We don’t know why the red flag came out so late, because it was clear that there was a serious accident. But why this happened is no longer use, because the result is obvious and we are the suffering.”
“Now we need to see what we’re going to do.”
“I think the qualifying rounds took place under very critical conditions. I also don’t know how many of these vehicles can be repaired for the race.”
“But of course we want the race to happen so Max has a chance to try to go as far as possible at least as possible,” he said.
