Ralf Schumacher: “Mick has no chance of returning to F1”
Mick Schumacher’s chances of a F1 return are ‘unrealistic’ after missing out on seats at Alpine and Sauber, says Ralf Schumacher.Mick Schumacher was considering joining Alpine as Pierre Gasly’s teammate in a bid to return to F1, but the French team preferred Jack Doohan.
Schumacher was then considered a likely candidate for Sauber , but they chose Gabriel Bortoleto.
Mick Schumacher’s uncle Ralf Schumacher, who is expected to remain in the World Endurance Championship as a result, has spoken about his nephew’s chances of making a return to F1.
“Formula 1 is a really crazy business,” Ralf told Sky Deutschland.
“And unfortunately, unless a pilot stops racing due to illness, the sport is no longer realistic for Mick.”
“Mick has been through a lot recently. Among other things, he only found out through a social media post that he wouldn’t be in the Alpine car. He’s definitely disappointed but he can deal with that decision.”
Schumacher praised Sauber/Audi for choosing Bortoleto for the seat alongside Nico Hulkenberg.
“I think it’s good for the team to start on a new path with a young driver who has won Formula 3 and is now leading in Formula 2. It’s a similar level to Oscar Piastri.”
“It’s not that easy for Sauber as a team because they have a very bad car at the moment. Rumour has it that a big part of the team was sold to Qatar for financial reasons. That’s one of the reasons why Bortoleto was chosen in the end.”
“I think the combination of experienced Nico Hulkenberg and young talent is a very good choice.”
