Sainz: “I would be very sad if Ferrari were to fight for the 2025 title”
Lewis Hamilton’s announcement in February that he would race for Ferrari in 2025 caused Sainz to lose his seat.
However, the Spanish pilot did not remain out of the grid for 2025 and announced that he had signed with Williams in the summer .
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari also opens up the possibility of the 39-year-old winning his eighth Formula One title with Ferrari, which aims to end a championship drought dating back to Kimi Raikkonen’s triumph in 2007.
Sainz, who believes he has contributed to Ferrari becoming a race-winning team again, is concerned that he is not part of that success.
“I am a driver who likes to contribute to development work and live in Maranello to improve the team,” Sainz told Sky Sports.
“When I came to Ferrari in 2021, my goal was to win a championship. This year we can do it in the constructors’ championship.”
“But if they are fighting for the drivers’ championship next year, it would be very sad for me.”
“So I feel like I had some influence on making this team a championship contender, but I won’t be here next year.”
“But now I’m starting a new chapter in my career and I can’t wait to be at Williams.”
Sainz was asked about the possibility of returning to Ferrari in the future.
“We should never say never,” the Spanish pilot said.
“I try to leave everywhere on good terms and put myself in good positions. I am someone who has good relationships with people, I am comfortable in that sense.”
“I’ll leave this door open.”
“Ferrari is not an option for me for the next few years because I have a contract with Williams. But it could happen in the following years,” he replied.
