Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will be sidelined for 4-6 months after undergoing hip surgery, the team confirmed on Wednesday. Seguin is set to have surgery to repair a femoroacetabular impingement and a hip labrum on his left side, with the procedure scheduled for Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The expected recovery timeline likely rules out Tyler Seguin for the remainder of the regular season and could extend into the first round of the playoffs, leaving the Stars without their key player for an extended period.

Seguin, 32, had been placed on injured reserve earlier this week, just one day after contributing to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets with a plus-2 rating and 15:08 of ice time. So far this season, Tyler Seguin has recorded 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) and a plus-14 rating in 19 games.

In his sixth season of an eight-year, $78.8 million contract with Dallas, Seguin has been a key figure for the team since joining the Stars in 2013, following three seasons with the Boston Bruins. The six-time All-Star has amassed 808 points (360 goals, 448 assists) in 988 career games. Tyler Seguin’s absence is a significant blow to the Stars, who will have to navigate the rest of the season without their star forward.
