The Manchester United icon and Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney has spoken up about his first red card as a manager, exposing the emotional outburst that culminated in his being sent off and a wild celebration that resulted in smashed spectacles for a club official.
Rooney was issued a red card during Plymouth’s most recent Championship game for an explosive outburst aimed at the match referees. Renowned for his aggressive approach as a player, Rooney has brought same ferocity into his management role. Rooney’s squad overcame Blackburn dramatically with a 97th-minute winner even though he was sent off.
Rooney on His Red Card and Celebrations
Speaking to talkSPORT, Rooney reflected on the incident and the celebrations that followed:
“Me and the club secretary in the tunnel were celebrating, I broke his glasses celebrating! So the win was a deserved win, but sometimes it boils over a little bit and that’s the nature of football.”
