Following this, assistant coach Mitch Johnson took over as interim head coach due to Popovich’s heart condition, which rendered him unavailable for an indefinite period.

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama expressed optimism about Popovich’s condition, saying he believes his coach will be back soon.

“We don’t have much information on Gregg Popovich’s situation. They only give us updates as allowed. I’m not worried about him. I know he’ll be back with the team soon,” Wembanyama shared.

When asked about Popovich’s potential return, Johnson added on Thursday, “He’s doing well,” but didn’t specify a timeline.
