Real Madrid’s Brazilian star, Vinicius Junior, recently addressed the rumors surrounding the staggering €1 billion offer he received from the Saudi Pro League, an offer that would have made him the highest-paid athlete in the world. The 24-year-old forward, while not immediately dismissing the proposal, has caused some concern at Santiago Bernabeu by considering his options until the end of the season.
According to ESPN, Vinicius Jr. is weighing the offer, which would see him earn an astronomical salary, but the player has now publicly expressed his intention to remain with Real Madrid in the long term. Vinicius emphasized his confidence in his place at the club and his ambition to win more trophies alongside some of the best talents in the world.
Vinicius Jr.’s Statement:
Speaking to CNN Sports, Vinicius said, “I always play to be among the best, and every day at Real Madrid, I feel more confident. I’ve already won two Champions League titles and play with others who have won six. Dani Carvajal, who has won six, motivates us to push our limits every day, showing that anything is possible with our current team.”
Vinicius highlighted the challenges of maintaining success at the highest level, stating, “Reaching this point was tough [winning two Champions League titles in three years], but staying at the top is even harder. I want to stay at this level for a long time and win as many Champions League titles as Carvajal, [Luka] Modrić, Nacho, and Toni [Kroos], who have won six.”
He concluded by expressing his optimism for the future, saying, “We could have one of the best teams of the next decade, and now we need to show that we can perform on the pitch. Alongside my teammates, I want to bring more championships to Real Madrid every time we play.”
Vinicius Jr. has had an extraordinary 2024, a year that could see him claim his first Ballon d’Or. He is set to return to the pitch on Thursday night in La Liga against Las Palmas.
