Virtus part ways with Devontae Cacok after long injury layoff
Virtus Segafredo Bologna have officially announced the departure of American big man Devontae Cacok, who has not played since December 28, 2023.
According to the club’s statement, the Permanent Board of Conciliation and Arbitration at the Lega Basket Serie A confirmed that Cacok’s contract was terminated as of September 30, 2024, officially ending the employment relationship between the two parties.
The termination follows Cacok’s long recovery from a knee injury sustained during a EuroLeague game against Partizan on Dec. 28, 2023. Almost a year later, the 28-year-old remains unfit for competitive play.
Prior to the injury, Cacok appeared in 15 EuroLeague games for Virtus last season, averaging 3.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.0 PIR over nine minutes per game.
Cacok joined Virtus in the summer of 2023 after a brief stint with CSKA. The Chicago native previously played 21 games for the Los Angeles Lakers between 2019 and 2021 (including one start) and 15 games with the San Antonio Spurs during the 2021-22 season.
