Will Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Extend Their Saudi Pro League Stays? CEO Weighs In

Omar Mugharbel, the CEO of the Saudi Pro League, has spoken on the futures of two of its best players, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contracts with Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, respectively, are set to expire next summer. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2023, Ronaldo has been a vital member of the team, but Neymar hasn’t had a big influence at Al-Hilal yet because of injuries. Both players continue to be essential to the league’s attractiveness both domestically and abroad.

Ronaldo’s Impact and Contract Discussions

Mugharbel acknowledged the transformative influence Ronaldo has had on the league:
“It’s no secret that Ronaldo has created a massive impact on the league, both domestically and internationally. It creates a lot of value and continues to do so.”

However, when it comes to the possibility of extending his stay, Mugharbel clarified that such matters rest between the player and the club:

“All discussions around the duration, the contract, and re-signing is a matter between Ronaldo and the club to agree on.”

Neymar’s Value Beyond the Pitch

Despite Neymar’s injury troubles, Mugharbel emphasized the forward’s global appeal and contributions off the pitch:

“Having Neymar in the league, even though he hasn’t been playing, brings massive value. He has a huge following globally and is quite active from a community perspective.”

When asked about a contract extension, he reiterated that the decision lies primarily with Neymar and Al-Hilal:

“It’s a discussion between the club and the player on how they view their future. We play a facilitating role, but the club has to be at the forefront of the decision-making.”
