Wojciech Szczesny Reveals Special Gift from Lionel Messi

Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed the story of a special gift he received from Lionel Messi in celebration of the Argentine’s historic goal-scoring feats, as well as confessing that Messi was the only player he was “afraid to play against.”

Lionel Messi made history in 2020 when he scored his 644th goal for Barcelona, breaking the club record for most goals scored by a single player. To commemorate the feat, Messi collaborated with Budweiser to send bottles of beer to the 160 goalkeepers he has scored against during his career.

Szczesny’s Record Against Messi

Szczesny, now providing cover for Marc-Andre ter Stegen at Barcelona, was among the goalkeepers who received this unique gift. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Szczesny humorously reflected on the moment:

“I think Leo only scored three [goals] against me. I remember because he only sent me three beers!”
Szczesny added that while other players have likely scored more against him, Messi stood out:
“He was the only one I was actually afraid to play against. Because he was that good.”
