Wrexham Fined After Brawl with Birmingham in ‘Hollywood Derby’

FA penalizes both teams engaged in on-field anarchy.

Following a furious fight that erupted during their League One match, attended by co-owners Tom Brady, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham and Birmingham City have been punished by the FA. In the 80th minute, the “Hollywood derby” descended into an all-out riot involving all 20 outfield players from a dispute between Alex Cochrane and Paul Mullin.

Following the fight, Wrexham booked James McClean, Birmingham captain Krystian Bielik, and Paul Mullin. The heated encounter tarnished the much awaited game, which Birmingham won 3-1 at St. Andrew’s.

Penalties Applied for Encounters of Violence

The FA concluded, according to the BBC, both teams guilty of encouraging violence on the pitch. Wrexham fined £3,750; Birmingham City will pay a normal penalty of £2,500. Both clubs “admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper and provocative way,” an FA spokesman said.

With the Hollywood link making the match and its aftermath more noteworthy in the football scene, the incident has added additional mystery to the ownership history of Wrexham and Birmingham.
