Bad News for Barcelona: Captain Out for the Season

Barcelona has announced that their captain, Marc ter Stegen, has suffered a rupture in the patellar tendon of his knee. The experienced goalkeeper is not expected to play for the remainder of the season.

According to a statement on the club’s website, ter Stegen was injured during the match against Villarreal.

The German goalkeeper will undergo surgery on his knee today.

What Happened?

Marc ter Stegen was injured in the closing minutes of the first half during Barcelona’s La Liga match against Villarreal in week 6. In an attempt to jump and catch the ball, he landed awkwardly and injured his knee, leaving the field for Inaki Pena.

Stegen has started in all matches for Barcelona this season. According to reports from the Spanish press, he is not expected to return for the rest of the season.
