BINOTTO TO TAKE OVER SAUBER DUTIES UNTIL WHEATLEY ARRIVES

Mattia Binotto, while confirming that he won’t attend all races, will temporarily take over Jonathan Wheatley’s duties until his arrival.

The Sauber team strengthened its roster during the summer by adding two key figures: Mattia Binotto was appointed CEO and technical chief of Sauber Motorsport AG, while Red Bull’s sporting director Jonathan Wheatley became the new team principal. In his new role, Binotto will be responsible for strategic planning and leading Audi’s factory team.

Wheatley, on the other hand, will oversee all operational management of the team. However, Wheatley is required to take mandatory leave after departing Red Bull Racing, meaning he will join the team in July 2025.

In an interview with Sky Germany, Mattia Binotto stated that he will take on the role until Wheatley assumes his position. Binotto said: “I know what it means to hold two positions in Formula 1, so I accept the responsibility. But I won’t be attending all the races.”

During his time at Ferrari, Mattia Binotto held both the team principal and technical director roles for several years.
