Coulthard: “Williams would not have chosen Mick or Lawson”

David Coulthard said it was an expected decision for Williams to choose one of their own academy drivers.

Williams dropped Logan Sargeant mid-season and replaced him with one of their academy drivers, Franco Colapinto.

Mercedes reserve driver Mick Schumacher and Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson were among the names Williams could have considered for the rest of the season.

However, Williams chose to go with their young driver instead of these options. Former Williams driver David Coulthard said this decision was not surprising, adding: “Williams was always going to choose someone from their academy.”

“Mick Schumacher could have been brought in, but the team chose to look to the future.”

“They approached it with the mindset of ‘choose someone better than Logan.’”
