Aitana Bonmati’s Agent Confirms Chelsea’s €3m Offer, but Barcelona Star Stays Loyal
Aitana Bonmati’s Agent Confirms Chelsea’s Big-Money Move for Barcelona Star
Aitana Bonmati’s agent has confirmed that Chelsea were prepared to activate the Barcelona star’s release clause, signaling a major attempt to bring the Ballon d’Or winner to the Women’s Super League (WSL).
Chelsea were ready to spend €3 million (£2.53m/$3.32m) to trigger Bonmati’s release clause, which would have made her the most expensive signing in the history of women’s football. However, Bonmati rejected the approach, reaffirming her commitment to Barcelona’s sporting project, which has been instrumental in her rise to stardom.
Speaking on Catalunya Radio’s Tot Costa programme, Bonmati’s agent, Cristian Martin, said: “Chelsea were willing to pay the €3m termination clause. That Barça can compete with offers of this calibre shows that, instead of reducing the women’s budget, the club is expanding it. Barcelona is consolidating its hegemony, and Aitana’s role within the team is also being strengthened.”
