STELLA: “LANDO USUALLY SEES THE GLASS HALF EMPTY”
In the 2024 Formula 1 season, there is an intense championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Despite Norris regularly losing points to Verstappen, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella says the British driver doesn’t need to change his driving style. Stella is satisfied with how his driver manages races.
In the 2024 season, Norris and Verstappen have faced each other on the track several times, with Verstappen often coming out on top. As a result, Norris has been critical of himself. Ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, the British driver admitted he didn’t think he was good enough in wheel-to-wheel racing.
While Norris criticizes himself, Stella believes there’s nothing wrong with his driving style. The McLaren team boss thinks Norris underestimates himself and praises his driving approach.
Stella said, “I think when Lando evaluates his race, he tends to focus on what he could have done better, seeing the glass half empty. But our discussions and internal assessments have always been very clear.”
“‘Lando, we like and approve of your racing style. It’s not your job to go out there and try to enforce justice yourself. We want you to race sportingly and fairly, which you’re already doing. There’s a third party, the stewards, to decide whether something’s right or wrong. Don’t feel desperate. You don’t have anything to prove. Just race fair and square.’ That’s what we want from Lando. And that’s what Lando wants from himself,” he added.
