Why Real Still Believes in the Davies Transfer

Real Madrid wanted to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies (23) this summer, but the transfer didn’t materialize – the club aims to change that next year.

According to the Spanish newspaper “as,” Real Madrid officials are reportedly counting on a promise Davies made to them, indicating that the left-back has assured the Spanish giants he will move to Real in La Liga next summer.

Davies is under contract with Bayern Munich until June 30, 2025, meaning he could leave on a free transfer. Additionally, from January 1, 2025, he can sign a pre-contract with a new club, which Real Madrid is said to be planning for. However, a winter transfer is not being considered.

Davies has played for Bayern Munich since 2019, joining from Vancouver Whitecaps for €14 million. In 198 official appearances, the defender has scored 11 goals and provided 31 assists. With Bayern, he has won the Champions League once, five Bundesliga titles, and two DFB-Pokal cups.

Is his time in Munich coming to an end?

This summer, Bayern demanded €50 million for Davies, but Madrid was unwilling to pay that amount. According to BILD, Real’s interest had cooled off for a while but could reignite quickly.

BILD reports that negotiations between Davies’ agent Nick Huoseh and Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl (50) recently broke down, and any discussion of a contract extension is off the table. The signs clearly point to a departure.

Top English clubs like Man City, Chelsea, and Arsenal are also said to be eyeing the player. So, there’s no shortage of potential suitors. The question remains whether Davies will stick to his reported promise to Real Madrid.
