Kane scores as Bayern thrash Bochum

Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga in style with a resounding victory over bottom side Bochum.

Michael Olise opened the scoring with a 20-yard free-kick over the wall after 15 minutes, becoming the second player after Harry Kane to score as many as five goals in his first five Bundesliga away appearances for the club.

Jamal Musiala latched on to Joshua Kimmich’s dinked free-kick, ghosting in behind the Bochum defence to head past goalkeeper Patrick Drewes at the near post.

After the break, Kane slotted his ninth league goal of the season into the roof of the net from Musiala’s pass.

Vincent Kompany’s side bounced back after they were soundly beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek.

Leroy Sane curled in a brilliant strike from the edge of the area to further increase Bayern’s lead.

Kingsley Coman had a goal disallowed for offside but made up for it with a curled effort which struck the bar before bouncing in.

Drewes made good saves in one-on-one situations to deny substitutes Thomas Muller and Mathys Tel from adding further goals.

Bayern were too much for a Bochum side who remain winless in the division and have one point after eight games.

Chances were limited for Bochum with Moritz Broschinski’s shot from outside the box deflected behind for a corner by Dayot Upamecano while Erhan Masovic headed wide from the far post.

The home side parted company with head coach Peter Zeidler, who was appointed in June, and sporting director Marc Lettau following their 3-1 defeat at Hoffenheim last weekend.
