Louis Saha Criticizes Erik ten Hag, Says Winning Trophies ‘Is Not Enough’

Erik ten Hag’s strategy has drawn criticism from former Manchester United striker Louis Saha, who believes the Dutch manager should quit “finding excuses” and concentrate on improving the team’s tactical shortcomings. Saha maintains that winning trophies by itself won’t be enough to guarantee Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford, as pressure on him grows as a result of United’s dismal 2024–25 season start.

United has drawn both of its Europa League matches and has only eight points from its opening seven Premier League games. Despite signing a contract extension in the summer, Ten Hag’s tenure is coming under more and more scrutiny. His future has been the subject of recent discussions at INEOS, the business that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of the club’s part-owners, owns.

“The problem is that I don’t see any links in the midfield. There’s nothing between Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford for example. These links, when you have more than one or two, mean that those guys don’t need to talk or move – they know each other so well. I don’t see that with United.”

He added that the team’s inability to gel on the field is reflective of deeper tactical issues.
