Marc Marquez: “MotoGP Championship? It’s Game Over”

Among MotoGP’s best, Marc Marquez has practically given up for his hopes for the 2024 title. Jorge Martin, the Gresini Racing Ducati rider, understands the math just isn’t on his side now with just five races left and lying a heavy 78 points behind the leader.

Marquez grabbed grand prix victories at Aragon and San Marino to start his late-season comeback powerfully. But last Sunday’s engine breakdown in Indonesia pushed his championship aspirations off-target. Now, for the eight-time world champion, the difference seems nearly insurmount with only 185 points still for grabs throughout the remaining events.

“We already had a big gap, and the gap is now too big after the zero points at the Indonesian Grand Prix.” Marquez said. Anticipating the race at Motegi in Japan this weekend, he said:

“The championship has been our ambition for the last five races, but it looks like it is gone for us. The championship is a two-man race; the divide already seems too great.”

Turning our attention to the Future

Still, Marquez is not likely to back off just yet. He is using the remaining races to hone his abilities and straighten any flaws in his performance while his championship ambitions are out of view. “This provides the mental clarity needed to keep working on the weak points and verify the strong ones in the last races,” he said.
