Sainz: “If Hamilton had stayed at Ferrari, my contract would have been renewed.”

Carlos Sainz emphasized that he left Ferrari on good terms, despite losing his seat to Lewis Hamilton for F1 2025.

While it seemed likely that the partnership between Sainz and Ferrari would be renewed last winter, the Italian team announced in February that they had signed Hamilton for 2025. Sainz was also recently announced to be moving to Williams for the upcoming season. The Spanish driver stressed that this departure hasn’t harmed his relationship with Ferrari.

In an interview with AS in Spain, Sainz stated, “I have no bad thoughts about Ferrari.”

“I don’t think they would say anything bad about me either. Our partnership didn’t end because we were unhappy with each other.”
“If Hamilton hadn’t wanted to end his career at Ferrari, my contract would have been renewed.”
“But you can’t say no to someone who has been a seven-time world champion; I completely understand that.”
